The Amazing Adventures of Captain Farr Novarider and the Wild Horses - Episode 06 - The Hellion Wing

Tonight's episode is the Hellion Wing, in which our heroes discover a lost Confederacy warship.  One must return to his past, and one will die.  No, seriously.  Someone is going to die this episode (my bet is on Reagan).

Everyone give a "Woot" for episode six!  Ev...  woot.  Fine, whatever.  At least it's on time this week.

The Audio Drama Directory

I am a dick.

For those of you who don't know, there's a database out there called The Audio Drama Directory, basically filling the harrowing job of building a listing of various audio dramas for the world to consume.  It's awesome.  If you haven't checked it out, you should.  Seriously, there are a lot of great shows listed here, and the guy (his name is Jeremy) is basically doing this for free - as far as I can tell.

The Amazing Adventures of Captain Farr Novarider and the Wild Horses - Episode 05 - The Royal Pirate Hunters

Tonight's episode is The Royal Pirate Hunters.  In which our heroes must face their deadliest enemy, yet: a pair of bored Confederated counts.  Can they escape the sleepy Count Urban Cometdust? Probably.  But watch anyway!

The last few weeks have apparently been a bunch of firsts for me.  From hitting 1000 site views and still going strong at 1652 at time of writing this, having a single episode make over 100 total views (apparently less than 10% of hits actually watch one of my episodes - awesome), and today for the first time, I forget to post the new episode.  GOING STRONG, BABY! WOO!

The Amazing Adventures of Captain Farr Novarider and the Wild Horses - Episode 04 - The Artifact From Beyond

Tonight's episode is: The Artifact From Beyond.  In which our heroes heroically hawk a priceless alien artifact they stole.  Thrilling.  And a new menace emerges from the shadows to... menace the crew of the Cabalina.

Okay, full disclosure.  I like voicing a girl.  While I'm sharing, I would take it hard from the exit only if it was coming from either Edward James Olmos or Tim Curry.  If this were high school, this is where someone would snicker at me and  mockingly say, "gay."  Thankfully, I'm secure enough in my manhood to not let that get under my skin.  So, y'know... I am rubber, you are glue.  Everything you say bounces off of me and sticks to you.  Neener, neener.

A Newbie Moment

Okay, I'm probably going have a few of these in the next few months.  I promise to keep them as minimal as possible, but in the meantime bear with me.   Point is because we share the same composer (badass Bradley Rains, bestest musician in the world), LoadingReadyRun used a miniscule - miniscule - clip from The Amazing Adventures soundtrack.  *Squeeee*

I know this is an incredibly small victory, and in no way does it really mean anything.  No, I take that back.  It means they were digging around for a clip of dramatic music, asked Bradley, and he was like, "here."  Doesn't matter.  Don't care.  At this point I do have to take small victories, like hitting 1200 views today.  Or noticing the fact that I have five consistent viewers that I'm sure are not related to me.  Or that I know have a wiki on Audio-Drama.com - and no, it doesn't matter that I was the one who created it.

Okay, I'm done now.  Switching gears, I'm still working on adding another show to the blog.  Not that I particularly need to make my life more busy, but I figure that it won't hurt to have an extra show around for entertainment's sake.  The current concept is game of Mutants & Masterminds (second edition) that I'm hopefully going to be GM'ing for a friend sometime soon come hell or high water.  I just need to figure out the process of recording over Skype, as for some reason I can't get Mixcraft 5 to capture his end of the conversation.  Any recommendations on that would be more than useful.

There will be action, drama, tears, laughter, and chances are good that there will be a time-traveling Marmeset with a jet pack and a gun that makes the player characters violently vomit.  Look for that along with other shows to hopefully come soon (more realistically in the off season of The Amazing Adventures).

The Amazing Adventures of Captain Farr Novarider and the Wild Horses - Episode 03 - The Marauding Horses

Tonight's episode is The Marauding Horses!  In which our heroes must seize a cargo of unfathomable treasure in the face of an elite corps of Royal Confederated soldiers.  One of our heroes will die... probably.  Okay, not really, but your watching now, so the hook works.

This was one of the first episodes that I realized that I would need to do a major rewrite.  While some of the current relationships were there, the jokes just weren't clicking. Originally, Cartwright was very ambiguously

Just a Nerdy Aside

Okay, for those of you who don't know: Mechwarrior Online is a thing.  It is an awesome thing as any Battletech fan can tell you.  Every time I jump onto this game's site, I immediately begin simmering in my pure joy for this series' triumphant return to the PC, and of this series finally getting a loving touch - much unlike the brutalization it received with Mechwarrior 4 (oh, that's right, I have plans for you Mechwarrior 4, dark and sinister pans; and don't think you're getting away clean either Harmony Gold).
While I certainly love the clack of the dice, the careful analyzation of an ever developing situation and implementation of tactics, and calculation of distance in hexes; I also love viewing the world from my modified CPLT-K2 Catapult, rapidly switching systems, carefully monitoring my heat, and the satisfying way an enemy 'Mech collapses to the ground.  In short, I can't wait for this game to release.  Now if I can just get my computer up to spec...

St. Ferris' Day

Another year has come, and once again, it is that special day for lovers everywhere.  The day when many a young couple will go to the local fair or amusement park; share a romantic meal of fair chili and watered down soda; spend ten dollars apiece to share a cozy seat on the Ferris Wheel; and enjoy a romantic view of the park while hoping that the guy in the chair a head of them doesn't vomit from too many deep fried twinkies and prehistoric corn dogs while he's above them.

Lady's and gentlemen. Boys and Girls. I am proud to present to you:

My new audio drama, the Amazing Adventures of Captain Farr Novarider and the Wild Horses!

Tonight's episode is: The Betrayal at Proxima Serpentis VI.

I should make quick mention that this episode does use some strong language. If at work, you may want to put head phones on.

**The video is no longer here.  I've moved it over here instead.**

Just a quick note, all: this is audio only; the title card is just a place holder.

The Guiltiest of the Guilty

I am a snob. I don’t drink beer; I enjoy finely crafted microbrews. I don’t listen to music; rather to albums by musical artists. I don't watch movies; I watch films such as The Third Man, Grave of the Fireflies, and Brick. I am a snob. I do not use this term lightly.
I’ve reveled in this idea for some time now; such to the point that it is an unalterable facet of my personality. However, with snobbery come many dark secrets. Little tidbits that I would rather not get out to the public, for fear that my highbrow reputation be forever tainted. Certain, singers or movies that catch my fancy – probably more than they should have any right to. I keep these morsels quieted away, safe and sound, in the back of my mind. Only to let them free and wild when that nettling little desire tugs at the back of my mind.
They are a joy that we all suffer from, even a staunch self-proclaimed snob such as myself - these guilty pleasures. They go against every fiber of our self, they are contrary to who we are, and, more often than not, we blush a little at their mere mention. But when we take a moment to enjoy them - to really eat them up, and savor the embarrassment - we feel a sense of being whole. This tiny antagonistic idea that's so completely opposite you, while you may never admit it in civil company, helps define who you are.
I say, have fun. Take the time to luxuriate in these odd pleasures. You certainly don't have to tell anyone now or ever. But do, take the time. Take the time to pop open a Corona Extra. Take the time to sing and dance along to "Weird Al" Yankovic's White and Nerdy. And take the time to giggle as Sean Connery is a Scotsman pretending to be an Egyptian, pretending to be a Spaniard in The Highlander. Have fun with these guilty pleasures. Because as odd and unbecoming as they seem, they are you.

Nerdoms Great Firsts

While working at Umpqua Bank, I'm required to do what's call a Motivational Moment (often shorthanded by the associates to many different things including MoMo which is cubicle-adorable, or M&M, which implies that the phrase is Motivational AND Moment). This is essentially just a short 5 minute meeting between the people in the department where they read a quote, play a quick game, or have a team building exercise.

Most commonly, associates use this time to read a short quote or maybe a group of quotes. Since my first occurred yesterday, I decided that I would use it towards my own dark ends and force my peers to listen to short essays that I wrote. What follows is my first (yes, there's a couple of themes in this).
This year has seen a number of firsts for me, not the least of which are my first full month at Umpqua and my first ever Motivational Moment. In order to commemorate this, these are four Famous Firsts. Why four? Mostly because of the alliteration. I'm not going to lie. That and I didn't want to stay up past eleven compiling this.

Back in 1872, former Governor of California Leland Stanford decided it was time to settle a popular debate of the day: did all four hooves of a horse ever completely leave the ground at once while at full gallop? Deciding that he was going to leave nothing to chance, he sought the aid of a British photographer by the name of Eadweard J. Muybridge to prove it scientifically.
Muybridge set up a series of twenty-four cameras along a race track each tied to a trip wire. As the horse ran by, it would break the trip wire, causing the camera to go off. This photographic evidence showed conclusively that a horse's hooves do in fact all leave the ground - thus eternally settling the debate, but Muybridge, however discovered something far more interesting. When all twenty four frames were transposed into a Zoopractiscope - a type of early animation device for still illustrations - the horse appeared to be in motion, giving birth to the first ever motion picture.
In 1933, seeking to create a newsprint tabloid dedicated solely to comic strips, Eastern Color salesperson Maxwell Gaines and sales manager Harry I. Wildenberg worked with Dell Publishing to publish a 36-page one shot magazine titled, Famous Funnies: A Carnival of Comics. Given to department stores for distribution, the one shot ultimately became the first of the modern-day comic book format.
Between 1620 and 1630, Johannes Kepler - a German mathematician, astronomer, and astrologer - wrote a novel which he titled Somnium (or Dream, in Latin). The narrative followed Duracotas, a student of the famed astronomer Tycho Brahe, who is transported to the moon by occult forces. It was a speculative view of how the Earth might appear from the surface of the moon; and showed many early and key understandings about scientific concepts such as gravity and the ideas of environmental protection beyond Earth's atmosphere.
This novel is now considered to be the first "pure-bred" example of Science Fiction, giving rise to the genre that would give us such literary schlock as Timecop, Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, or any given Ronald Emrich movie, but has also passed on the speculative and introspective genius such as Neuromancer, Do Robot's Dream of Electric Sheep, and Inception.
Currently, I can't seem to go home without either sitting down in front of my Xbox 360 and taking on the roll of Cabalina, an elven mage in the fantastical land of Ferelden, or watching Noah "theSpoonyOne" Antwhiler rant about the games he loves to hate on his blog TheSpoonyOne.com. But when did this ubiquitous facet of escapism start? Back on May 5th, 1951, NIMROD was presented to the Festival of Britain by Ferranti, and was capable of playing the game Nim - a mathematical game of strategy where two players take turns picking up sticks or beads from distinct heaps; the last player to remove the object from play won. While previous computers had been capable of playing games, Nimrod was the first computer ever specifically designed with the intention of playing games.

Exquisit Corpse; Entry II

"Je vous remercie , monsieur," the Conductor took the tickets, marked and then returned them with a polite bow of his head, and moved on. There was a short beat of silence as she studied the second man. Something about his grooming and clothes didn't match; almost like the suit he wore was from a higher echelon of society than he.

" Thanks," she said with half a smile and half a breath then she began to walk.

"Please, your name. What is it?"

"I... I'm not really sure." She returned.

He bit his cheek, as he thought for a moment, "Funny. I was going to tell you the very same."
